Laser Hair Removal in Fort Myers, FL

Laser Hair Removal Fort Myers | Hair Removal Naples FL

Laser hair removal has grown in popularity in Fort Myers, Bonita Springs, Naples and beyond to become one of the most popular minimally invasive cosmetic procedures performed in the United States, for both men and women, in addition to BOTOX® and dermal fillers. People in warm climates, such as ours in Florida, are concerned with body hair year-round, but a smooth bikini line and hair-free backs are also becoming the trend nationwide.

At Azul Cosmetic Surgery and Medical Spa our aestheticians are highly trained and utilize the most premiere technology for your laser hair removal treatment. At Azul, you can expect a safe treatment in a very comfortable setting. If you are interested in laser hair removal, we offer competitive prices for your treatment.

What is Laser Hair Removal?

A very effective treatment, laser hair removal can help Southwest Florida area patients reduce unwanted hair anywhere on the body. As shaving and tweezing have a shorter window for hair regrowth and is more troublesome to deal with. The hair must have pigment to respond to the laser, and coarse hair responds better than fine hair.

Laser hair removal has come a long way in the past 5 years, and the latest technology is faster, safer, and more efficient with less discomfort for patients. The latest technology available treats the widest range of skin and hair types without sacrificing comfort.

Good Candidates for Laser Hair Removal

The best candidates for laser hair removal are people with light skin and dark hair. Black and brown hairs respond the best, gray and red hair slightly less, and fine, light hair (such as peach fuzz on the face) responds poorly. Some considerations include ensuring that you don’t have an active tan, haven’t recently plucked or waxed, and have an understanding that you may require a series of sessions to achieve your goals.

This is important because people with darker skin types have more melanin, so the laser light doesn’t know the difference between pigment in the skin and pigment in the hair we want to remove. Any additional questions can be answered by Dr. Patrick Flaharty.

Sciton Laser for Hair Removal

In keeping with our mission to provide our patients with the best and latest technology available, we offer the Sciton laser at our offices. The Sciton laser brings hair removal to another level of speed, comfort, and safety. It is a state-of-the-art diode laser that works by targeting the pigment in each hair shaft. The laser light is then converted to heat, which spreads to knock out the stem cells that generate the hair.

Laser Hair Removal Treatment Areas

The Sciton laser is special for a number of reasons. First, it has the largest spot size, or treatment area, in its class. That means large areas such as the back, chest, legs, or arms can be treated more quickly than ever.

These areas are often difficult to remove hair from:

  • Back
  • Chest
  • Legs
  • Arms

How Can I Prepare For My Laser Hair Removal Treatment?

Preparation for your laser hair removal treatment can make your procedure smoother and quicker. Before arriving at your appointment, make sure your skin is clean and free from lotion, sunscreen, deodorant, and other topicals that make cause complications with the laser.

Avoid shaving, waxing, or plucking the area at least two days before your treatment. The laser needs hair and pigment to target, and if you remove all hair from the area immediately before your appointment, it can be difficult for the laser to target any hair.

If you are taking any medications, it’s important to consult your doctor before committing to a laser hair removal appointment. Certain medications, including blood thinners, anti-inflammatory drugs, acne medications, retinol, and hormone treatments, may affect your body’s reaction to the laser used during the procedure.

How Is Laser Hair Removal Performed?

At our Naples, Bonita Springs and Fort Myers clinics, laser hair removal is done with a contact handpiece that delivers light energy to the skin in pulses. The energy is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle, destroying the bulb. Only active, growing hairs respond to the laser, and as such a series of treatments is required because not all hair is in a growth phase at one time.

Some of the largest spot size handpieces allow providers to quickly treat unwanted hair, even in the largest areas such as a back, in less than 15 minutes. These procedures used to take more than an hour. Technology for laser hair removal continues to improve, and we are using state-of-the-art devices.

How Many Hair Removal Treatments Are Required?

Patients are asked to shave the area(s) to be treated the day of treatment. Shaving will increase the efficacy of the laser because the less hair that is on the surface of the skin, the more energy can be delivered into the source of the hair — the follicle. The hair follicles that are destroyed are gone for good, but about 10 percent of the hair will not be eliminated.

Usually a series of 6 to 8 treatments is required, 2 weeks to 2 months apart, depending upon the area treated. Each treatment takes 10 to 30 minutes, depending on the area being treated. Not every hair will be eliminated by the laser, however, it is a very effective solution to substantially reduce unwanted hair in good candidates.

Laser Hair Removal Side Effects

The most common side effects include some redness and swelling at the treatment site that can last up to 24 hours. The level of discomfort depends on the area being treated, with the bikini line and upper lip being the most uncomfortable. Our patients generally rate the most intense discomfort as “moderate.”

Newer technology with a “cool tip” and larger handpiece is faster and less painful than previous lasers. In addition, numbing cream can help alleviate pain.

What Is The Recovery Time?

Regular activities can be resumed immediately following treatment. Immediately after your treatment, you should avoid swimming pools, hot tubs, and strenuous activity resulting in perspiration for 24 hours.

What Does Laser Hair Removal Aftercare Involve?

After undergoing laser hair removal treatment, it’s important to take care of the treated area to avoid complications during the healing period. To achieve optimal results, patients need to follow the following aftercare guidelines in the first 24 hours to two days after your treatment:

  • Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun
  • Avoid saunas and hot baths
  • Avoid tanning lotion
  • Refraining from applying pressure to the treated area
  • Avoid tight-fitting clothes that may affect the treated area
  • Avoid swimming in pools, lakes, and oceans for 48 hours

Is Laser Hair Removal Permanent?

We like to call it permanent hair “reduction.” Due to the cyclical nature of hair growth, no treatment is permanent. However, results are long-term, and any regrowth will be much thinner and lighter.

What are the Benefits of Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal can make eliminating body hair or facial hair easier. By leaving the maintenance to the hands of professionals, not only will it save you time from shaving, waxing, or plucking daily, but you’ll also avoid the side effects of hair removal at home.

By removing hair by laser, you won’t have to deal with razor burn, bleeding, the pain from plucking or waxing, and the scarring it can leave behind. Because the laser targets the hair follicle, you’ll also be able to enjoy smoother skin than you would if you were to shave your hair with a razor. This can result in a more even skin tone and a smoother complexion. For some patients, this also means more ease in their clothing, boosting self-confidence!
