Sculptra is Not a Standard Dermal Filler
The most commonly known dermal fillers are those that are formulated for immediate results. They often contain hyaluronic acid, which restores volume by binding to water molecules. Sculptra doesn’t work in the same way. First, Sculptra may not be placed in exactly the same way as a hyaluronic acid filler. It may be applied toward the hairline to affect the face’s foundation rather than filling out one particular area. Sculptra is made with poly-L-lactic acid, a chemical that initially provides structure and, over time, stimulates collagen production so the skin is renewed from the inside out. Also different than traditional fillers, Sculptra treatments are given in a series. Patients receive 3 to 4 rounds of injections over 6 weeks to stimulate meaningful collagen remodeling that lasts two years or more.
Results Look Natural
We’re not implying that the results of dermal fillers like Juvéderm don’t look natural. They do because we take great care in our injection technique. Where Sculptra differs in the area of natural appearance, though, is that the improvements to the skin occur more gradually. After a standard filler treatment, patients leave the office looking noticeably different. After Sculptra injections, the immediate difference lasts only a short time. We explain like a marathon of rejuvenation rather than a sprint. With the ongoing improvement being so gradual, patients are often asked things like “did you lose weight?” or “what have you changed about yourself? I can’t pinpoint it!” These are great compliments of a rejuvenating job well done.
