The Real Value of Facials and Peels
- Posted on: Sep 1 2018
Have you ever heard the phrase, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure?” When Benjamin Franklin said that, he probably wasn’t thinking about skincare (just to hazard a guess), but there is a lot of wisdom there that can be applied to the world of cosmetic procedures.
Lots of people think that facials and peels are luxuries, procedures where you get to pamper yourself and your skin. As a skincare formulator, I know that facials and peels are so much more than that. There is real value in facials and peels, beyond that of relaxation and improved skin texture, in that they can save you a lot of money, time and effort in the long run.
We see many different kinds of patients at Azul, including those who neglected proper skincare when they were younger. As the wear and tear of time started to take a toll on their skin, they often have to come in for some of our more serious treatments to get rid of sun damage, age spots or deep wrinkles. These procedures, like CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing, are incredibly effective, but can also require longer recovery periods and some amount of discomfort. In the long run, it can actually be much easier to come in for regular facials and peels to maintain your skin health and extend your youthful and healthy appearance for years!
At Azul’s Medical Spa, we aren’t really interested in the cucumbers over eyes, or hours-long mud facials that most people picture when they think of a resort-style spa day. As a Medical Spa, our facials are much more advanced! While they are relaxing, yes, they are also a key part of maintaining a healthy, youthful glow well into your later decades.
The HydraFacial MD is one of the most popular facials in the world. Favored by many celebrities, it combines cleansing, exfoliation, extractions and hydration to deliver one of the most comprehensive skin-rejuvenating procedures we offer. Only taking between 25 to 45 minutes, you can even get one on your lunch hour!
Everyone has different skincare needs, which is why the Azul Platinum Facial is one of the most customizable procedures we have. When you come in for a Platinum Facial, it will be specifically tailored to what you need. It’s a therapeutic and relaxing treatment that makes for the perfect midday skincare break! This is probably our most gentle facials – so if you have sensitive skin, I encourage you to start here.
As with most “worst case scenarios” in the media, chemical peels have gotten a bit of a bad name. When many think of chemical peels, they think about red, painful, peeled skin, but that is far from the reality. Chemical peels are remarkably effective ways to stave off the effects of aging, and eliminate skin damage as you go, rather than trying to fix it once the damage is deep-rooted. They melt away dead skin cells, increase cellular turnover, and come in many different strengths. Some of them are even great for sensitive skin!
The Express Peel
If you are in a hurry, it’s impossible to beat our Express Peel! This is a monthly maintenance treatment that combines dermaplaning with a gentle chemical peel customized to your skin type. It only affects the top layer of your skin, and is so gentle that there is no downtime at all. You can walk out of our Medical Spa immediately after the treatment, ready for the rest of your day!
The Azul Designer Peel
If you’re looking for something a little more comprehensive, the Azul Designer Peel is for you. We customize every aspect of this chemical peel, using a synergistic blend of skincare ingredients that will greatly improve the texture and appearance of your skin. It’s suitable for all skin types and, as with the Express Peel, there is no downtime associated with the procedure.
Light skincare peels can be great, but you may want something that will penetrate a little deeper to treat crow’s feet, mild sun spots and shallow scars. As this peel will affect both the surface and upper layer of the skin, there may be some social downtime associated with it. But if you’re looking to rejuvenate your skin, a medium peel can really deliver results!
Now we are moving into the stronger peels. The TCA peel will penetrate the surface, upper, and some of the lower levels of the skin. It’s great at getting rid of superficial pigmentation, like dark sun spots, and also at helping get rid of fine surface lines on the face. Because this is a stronger peel, it will require a bit of social downtime to allow your skin to heal and replace the lost skin cells. But once you’ve recovered, your skin is going to look fantastic!
Some people think of the Vi Peel as the perfect balance between aggressive and mild chemical peels. Although it will treat pigmentation issues, fine lines, wrinkles, acne scarring and pore size, it’s a painless treatment that has little downtime associated with it. The Vi Peel is one of the most popular peels nationally.
The big questions when it comes to facials and peels are, “What is the right skincare treatment for me?” and, “How often should I get it?” Thankfully, we can answer both of these questions for you! When you first come into Azul, we offer a free consultation with our SkinHealth providers to help determine your skincare needs and what Medical Spa, surgical or non-surgical procedures would be best for you. If you’d like to book an appointment, please give us a call at (239) 747-1148, or visit our website at www.azulbeauty.com for more information on any of the procedures we mentioned. Remember, getting regular facials and peels early on can save you a lot of skincare difficulties later in your life!
