Rejuvenating Your Eyes without Surgery

By Britten

Are you afraid of surgery?

If so, you’re not alone. Now that the stigma of cosmetic surgery has been lifted, people all over America are looking into some of the incredible anti-aging procedures that are available. And yet, many of them choose to do nothing? Why is this? What it boils down to is, simply, a fear of surgery.

Surgery can be scary. Going under the knife isn’t an appealing notion, nor is the idea of a lengthy recovery. Thankfully, over the last few years, non-surgical cosmetic technology has been surging to the forefront, providing completely non-invasive cosmetic solutions to those who want to take advantage. These procedures have gotten so sophisticated that, in many cases, they are almost as effective as full cosmetic surgery.

Let’s take your eyes, for example. The eyes are one of the first places where people really start to notice the signs of aging. Crow’s feet and dropping eyelids can give you a tired, worn out appearance, adding years to your features. There are now two incredibly simple and effective non-surgical procedures that can help rejuvenate your eyes and give you back that sparkle of youth. They are Botox and Ultherapy.

As the Master Injector at Azul, it’s my pleasure to introduce my patients to the wonders of Botox. It is amazing to me the misconceptions people have about this simple and easy procedure. People are terrified that their face is going to be “frozen” or that we are going to inject them with poison. Neither of these myths are true. What we inject is a highly diluted neurotoxin called botulinum toxin. In large quantities, yes, this can be dangerous. (But so is consuming an entire bottle of Aspirin!)

Botox is medicine, and like any medicine, we use it sparingly. We inject it into the tiny twitch muscles around the eyes and forehead that cause wrinkles to be formed. By doing this, we weaken, but do not paralyze, them. After a week or so without the constant movement of these muscles, you will notice that the fine lines around your eyes will start to fade away. Botox is a fast, effective procedure and here at Azul Cosmetic Surgery, I promise you will feel nothing but a tiny pinch, if that!

So, now that we’ve handled the wrinkles, how about the drooping skin around your eyes? To eliminate this surgically, we would recommend a brow lift and eyelid surgery, but there is a fantastic non-surgical option, Ultherapy. With Ultherapy, we use ultrasound energy to stimulate new collagen growth in the foundational layer of the skin. Collagen is what keeps our skin tight and prevents any sagging, but we lose it as we age. With Ultherapy, we can give your skin back its elasticity, appearance and glow. It works on your chin, neck and brow, giving you a non-surgical uplift that will take years off your appearance.

Together, Botox and Ultherapy work synergistically, restoring the tightness and elasticity of your skin while minimizing any wrinkles that have developed. The only real issue with non-surgical treatments is that they are not permanent. Eventually, the muscles around your eyes will regain their strength and you will lose that newly developed collagen. But with regular treatments every few months, you can refresh your results, giving you back that youthful glow every time. Even better, both procedures are quick (under an hour!) and there is no recovery time for either. You walk into the office, you walk out an hour later looking years younger!
