Looking Younger with the Help of Fillers

Some people say that age is just a matter of perception. Well, I absolutely agree, but it’s also true that our perception certainly has changed in the last couple decades.

Social media has really hasn’t done us many favors when it comes to reminding us of how we used to look – maybe you’ve heard of “Throw Back Thursday (TBT)”?!? It used to be, we’d need to delve into the old photo album to see images of ourselves 15 years younger. Now, all we need to do is log into Facebook and it will “helpfully” show us memories from more than a decade ago. Sometimes this can be nice, but sometimes it’s a little startling, too! It can call attention to the fact that the face in the mirror isn’t quite the same as the one we remember. The skin texture might be a little rougher, the hollows under our eyes might be a little deep, and the big one – there might be wrinkles!

Wrinkles can’t be avoided, they’re just a fact of aging and the most obvious signs of aging. Many people search endlessly to get rid of their wrinkles for that younger look; while others cherish each wrinkle as a record of the joys and sorrows of their life. Me? I agree with both of them!

No one wants a frozen, plastic, perfectly smooth face. We all want character and the look of our own unique face. But that doesn’t mean that every wrinkle you’ve “earned” needs to stay there forever. The ultimate result is looking like your absolute best you – keep the character, loose the deep lines and web of wrinkles!

One option is a face and neck lift, but what if you aren’t quite prepared for a surgery, or maybe you are health precludes surgery? What if you just want a way to get rid of the deeper wrinkles, like forehead lines and furrowed brows? Enter dermal fillers.

Dermal Fillers

As we start to get older, our bodies produce less collagen. In fact, they say you start losing 1% of your total collagen every year starting at about age 30! Since collagen is what keeps our skin lifted and youthful, this loss means we start to develop wrinkles, sagging, and hollows in the face. There are ways, however, to replace this collagen and restore some of the volume that we’ve lost over the years. And one of the most effective methods is use of dermal fillers.

Most dermal fillers use a bio-absorbable ingredient called hyaluronic acid (HA). This is a substance that is naturally produced by our bodies – think of it as cellular glue that holds everything together. Our bodies not only produce less collagen as we get older, but also produce less hyaluronic acid. But that’s okay, because we can get it another way! Through injections!

Our Master Injectors (myself included) can inject HAs with pinpoint accuracy to fill in wrinkles and hollows of the face, leaving you with incredibly natural-looking results.

What Can Dermal Fillers Do?

Let’s take wrinkles, for example. One of the most obvious signs of aging are deep horizontal lines along the forehead. Although you might consider an endoscopic brow lift, the non-surgical solution is to use dermal fillers. We literally fill in the wrinkles using an HA, injecting into the fold itself. Immediately afterwards, you will see significant improvement as the lost HA and collagen will be replaced by the new filler. If we do that for every line on your forehead, we can almost instantly take years off your appearance.

Dark circles under the eyes are another of the most common signs of aging, and sometimes won’t go away no matter how much sleep we get. They can make us look tired and unengaged, as though insomnia has set up shop and isn’t planning on leaving any time soon. Eyelid surgery one alternative, but we can also improve the appearance of these hollows using dermal fillers. Once we fill in the area to replace the lost volume there, you will instantly appear more awake and alert! Dr. Flaharty is incredibly talented with this procedure and uses some very advanced (cannula) techniques that most injectors and surgeons don’t have the skill to use.

Our lips are one of the most important aspects of our face. Loss of collagen and fat over time leads to thinning, and thin narrow lips with those pesky vertical lines just don’t look good on anyone. Yes, lipstick can help fill them out, but there is only so much that makeup can do. Lipsticks and liner can never create any true projection. Lip cosmetics can really only create a slightly larger appearance by lining outside the natural lip border. So why not just fill your lips out again using dermal fillers? We can inject the perfect amount of dermal filler to restore your lips to their natural, full appearance! And don’t worry – no duck-lips here. We completely understand what a “conservative lip” looks like!

Is There a Recovery Period and Downtime?

Nope!

One of the best things about dermal fillers is just how convenient they are. Many surgical cosmetic procedures require some recovery time, allowing your body time to heal. With dermal fillers, there is almost no recovery period at all. You will instantly be able to notice an improvement in your facial features. There might be some very minor swelling immediately after the procedure, but that’s about it. You can walk out of Azul with a smile on your face, looking better than you have in years!

If we had to sum up why dermal fillers are so popular, it’s because they are so natural looking. If you post a photo of someone a few days after a dermal filler treatment, people might think, “Oh, that’s a photo from years ago.” But no, it’s a photo of RIGHT NOW! And your results can get even better when you combine dermal fillers with a treatment like Botox or Dysport. With these treatments, we can diminish those tiny, fine lines around the eyes as well. That’s why, when combined, we call it the Azul Liquid Facelift!

The only drawback to dermal fillers is that they don’t last forever. One of the reasons dermal fillers are so safe is because they get reabsorbed by your body over a period of time. This means that you will need to come back to Azul for touch-up treatments. Fillers have so many advantages, they offer facial rejuvenation for patients who do not want surgery, patients who are delaying surgery, and for patients extending their surgical investment.

At Azul we offer a number of different kinds of dermal fillers, icluding Juvéderm®, Radiesse®, Restylane® and Restylane® Lyft. All of these fillers have different strengths and advantages, depending on the results you are looking for. That’s one of the reasons we offer free consultations. With our guidance and advice, you can discover the exact filler, or combination, that is best for you. You may want to consider some of our other non-surgical or surgical procedures as well. Most patients use a combination of products and services to achieve and maintain their look. If you’d like to book an appointment for a free consultation, give the office a call at (239) 747-1148, or visit our website at www.azulbeauty.com for more information about all of these procedures. We are happy to help you face your Facebook posts again!
