Baby, it’s hot outside! On scorching Florida days, which sunscreen do you trust to protect the delicate skin on your face, neck and décolletage? It’s a well-known fact that some sunscreens contain chemicals so harsh that their application can damage your skin just as much as the sun can. So how do you choose the best sunscreen, not only to protect your skin, but to reverse the signs of aging?
For years, Dr. Kristen Flaharty had been frustrated with the usual “grocery store” kinds of sunscreens. None of them were pure and gentle enough to be used by Dr. Patrick Flaharty’s pre- and post-surgical patients, none of them contained nourishing ingredients that could also act as a skin care treatment as well as a protector. Worst of all, they felt greasy and many contained ingredients that were actually harmful to the skin!
So she headed back to Trilogy Laboratories and, in conjunction with Dr. Patrick Flaharty, they started creating some of their own custom formulations to help address the gap in the market. The result? Three ground-breaking skin protection sunscreens: each loaded with Azul’s own proprietary blends of anti-aging super-ingredients – to create a skin treatment and sun protection – in one. They call it their “Protect and Repair” series of products.
Let’s take a closer look at each Azul sunscreen and the differences between them.
1) Azul’s Mineral Defense SPF32 – Protect, Repair, Brighten for the Whole Family
This lightweight, dry, brush on mineral sunscreen contains tiny micro-particles of zinc and titanium to form a protective barrier between your skin and the sun and is perfect for those on the go. It looks like a tinted powder make up, but comes in a brush applicator that is easy to carry in your purse, golf or athletic bag. It’s the perfect sunscreen to use daily over the top of makeup, when you’re working out, playing a round of golf or doing any sporting activity outdoors, especially when it’s time to re-apply and you don’t want to pull out the lotion and slather your hands or face with lotion! Imagine heading in for a sandwich at the turn and just pulling out your sunscreen brush to apply onto your face, neck and décolleté before finishing your round of golf (or for the guys maybe the top of your head where hair is thinning?). Mineral Defense also contains the powerful antioxidant niacinamide that soothes inflammation, inhibits skin pigmentation, boosts collagen production and smooths and repairs fine lines and wrinkles, as well as vitamin C to strengthen and brighten the skin.
Can be used by: Adults and children of all ages and all skin types, specially formulated for sports and outdoor activities, excellent for men with thinning hair on top and children on the go.
2) Azul’s Satin Eclipse Sunscreen SPF34 – An Under-Makeup Treatment Primer with Infrared Light Protection (available tinted or clear)
Introducing a new generation of tinted sunscreens and skin primers – all rolled into one.
Part of the Azul Blue Diamond line, Satin Eclipse not only provides UVA/UVB protection, but also blocks infrared light – a major cause of photo-aging – and is by far the most complete active product to effectively fight sun-induced aging on the market today. Antioxidant vitamins C and E have been added to provide you with slow-release reparative activity, so that your skin is being protected and repaired all day long. Satin Eclipse smooths the skin, and its micro-silicone particles provide for a satin finish – the perfect primer before applying makeup.
Can be used by: All skin types, but has been specially formulated as an under-makeup super-primer to protect and repair the skin from photo-aging damage.
3) Azul’s Ultra Natural Sunscreen SPF32 – Soothing Botanical Sunscreen with Infrared Blockers
Formulated with all-natural ingredients, Ultra Natural Sunscreen provides broad-spectrum protection from UVA and UVB rays. Dr. Flaharty prefers that his patients use this formulation prior to and after surgery as it is a pure and natural formulation that is easy on stressed skin. It also provides your skin with extra protection against free radical damage generated by UV exposure, and contains Lingonberry Stem Cells which protect against infrared light (heat and visible light), a newly recognized environmental factor causing aging. Green tea and vitamin C are also added to this sunscreen as free-radical scavengers that fight stress and protect DNA against damage caused by the sun. Vitamin C assists in brightening the skin as well as stimulating collagen. This product is available tinted and un-tinted.
Can be used by: All skin types, but especially formulated for sensitive skin and pre- and post-surgery/peel/laser.
Whether you are a snowbird or a full-time resident, everyone in Florida needs to be wary of the sun. It’s one of the best things about our state, but we always need to be cautious of its power. One accidental sunburn and your skin will pay the price for weeks. Thankfully, once you apply Trilogy Laboratories’ and Azul’s sunscreens, you won’t have to worry about getting a sunburn again! And you’ll also know that they are hard at work repairing the damage that’s already been done.
