How to Look Better in Selfies Over the Holidays with Chin Implants!

Ah, the holidays. A time for family, peace on earth and… selfies?

How the holidays have changed since we were kids. Back then, we had never even heard of selfies. There might have been a nice family photo of everyone sitting around the dinner table, but nothing compared to the social media onslaught that kids post today. If you have a holiday guest under the age of 15 with a cell phone, you can expect dozens of photos of yourself to be plastered across Instagram and Facebook within an hour.

If you’re the type of person who likes to tightly control photos of yourself, this becomes a source of dread. A lousy picture can show off all of your least favorite features. For those with a weak chin it can be hard to choose your “best side”. From the front, you end up showing off a double chin. From the side, your jawline just seems to melt into your neck. But it doesn’t have to be that way. There is one surefire way to guarantee that you look even better than your best in holiday photos and selfies, and that’s to get a chin implant!

Chin Enhancement
One of the biggest reasons so many people hate photos of themselves is because of their overall profile. This is especially a problem with selfies, as they are often taken from a low angle, emphasizing the chin. If you have a weak or recessed chin, it can look even more pronounced in selfies. Thankfully, you can use a chin enhancement to fix the problem entirely.

Your Options
When you are thinking about a chin enhancement, you have few options, both surgical and non-surgical.

By getting a surgical chin implant, we can augment your chin permanently, correcting a true chin recession or merely restoring what you may have lost due to age and loss of bone. We use a soft implant made of solid silicone that is form-fitted directly to the chin bone. This is inserted with a small incision in the natural crease under the chin, resulting in very, very minimal and subtle scaring. Chin implants come in several different sizes, so we choose the one that best fits your face and provide the needed balance with your cheeks, forehead and nose.

The chin is one of our most under-appreciated features. It’s a key part of our facial balance. A weak or recessed chin can make your nose appear larger or make your face blend into your neck. With a chin implant, you can create a new, stronger jawline and a longer, leaner neck profile that will have you looking fabulous in holiday selfies.

Recovery Period
As a chin implant is a surgical procedure, you can expect a recovery period to come along with it, but it might not be as long as you think.

You can expect to see swelling and bruising around the jaw for approximately two weeks after the procedure. During this time, the swelling can be managed with cold packs (or even bags of peas). If you are experiencing some discomfort, you could be prescribed some pain medication. If there is any sign of an infection, antibiotics will be prescribed.

To get your optimal results, you need to avoid pressure on the chin area for about six weeks after surgery, as this could dislodge the implant. Excess facial movement could also impact your final results.

If you come into Azul for a chin implant procedure soon, you will be completely healed in time for the holidays!

Non-Surgical Options
The non-surgical chin augmentation option is to use dermal fillers to augment the chin. Although this can be very effective, unfortunately it isn’t a long-lasting treatment. As the body reabsorbs dermal fillers over time, you will need to come in every few months for a refresh. It works, but generally, surgery is the patient-preferred option.

You can improve the shape of your jawline by removing or reducing fat under your chin and jaw. There are two popular methods and we use both at Azul, sometimes together. The treatment decision is often based on the amount of fat and where it is located around and under your jaw.

CoolSculpting of the submental, or under-chin area has proven very successful especially on our patients with larger necks where the fat is not just under the chin, but also under the jaw area. It may take more than one treatment, but it’s an in-office one-hour treatment that has no downtime and almost no discomfort. So, there are a lot of benefits if all you are looking to do is reduce fat and not improve the actual chin proportion and shape.

Another non-surgical method that you can use to improve your chin’s profile is KYBELLA™. This injectable treatment is known by its nickname: the “double chin shot.” KYBELLA™ is made of deoxycholic acid, a chemical that occurs naturally in the body. When it’s injected under the chin, it starts to break down and destroy fat cells. This leaves you with a more contoured, slimmer neck and a much-improved chin.

The holidays always seem to have more social gatherings and more pictures – so you want to look and feel your best. If you’ve ever felt a little self-conscious about your chin, a chin implant can fix the problem permanently, ensuring a fantastic and strong profile in your pics. If you aren’t worried about your chin, but you have other concerns that could show up in pictures, like excessive wrinkles or drooping brows, we have both surgical and non-surgical solutions for those, too (BOTOX and eyelid surgery).
