How to Choose the Best Filler for My Aesthetic Goals

Over the last few years, dermal fillers have become popular, helping women and men of all ages achieve their aesthetic goals. While fillers have their benefits, you need to be careful in choosing the right formula for you. This is because some fillers are meant to plump and contour your face while others are used to treat signs of aging, by filling wrinkles and fine lines.

To make things easier, here are some of the different filler options we offer at Azul® Cosmetic Surgery & Medical Spa!

What Are Fillers?

Dermal fillers, also known as injectable implants or facial fillers, can be used to either change the shape of your features or rejuvenate them. Once injected, fillers can restore lost volume to areas, such as your lips, cheeks, and even some areas of your body. A dermal filler can also reduce the appearance of wrinkles and other aging signs to help you look younger than you have in years.

The fillers that are most commonly used contain hyaluronic acid (HA), but each dermal filler has a different formula that achieves different results. It’s important to keep in mind that dermal fillers start to break down and get reabsorbed by the body, requiring you to come back in and get touch-ups, anywhere between six months to a year from treatment.

Different Fillers to Consider

Here are the most popular fillers we offer at Azul® Cosmetic Surgery & Medical Spa and how they can help you:

1. JUVÉDERM®

JUVÉDERM® is one of the most effective hyaluronic acid fillers out there. It is a one-size-fits-all kind of filler that offers lift and volume while also filling gaps or wrinkles in problem areas. While it’s most commonly used for wrinkles and volume loss, it can also be used as a fantastic lip filler!

As we mentioned above, JUVÉDERM® is primarily used to fill and smooth moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds and works on what is known as “static” wrinkles. These are wrinkles, creases, and areas of volume loss that are caused by sun damage, declining collagen production, environmental factors, and personal habits such as smoking. Smile lines, marionette lines, parentheses lines, barcode lines, volume loss in the cheeks and lips — these are all examples of static wrinkles.

2. Restylane®

Restylane® is another filler option if you are looking to restore lost volume in your skin or you want to reduce mild to moderate wrinkles. It’s also a great option if you want to change the shape of your lips or contour your chin or cheeks. Similar to JUVÉDERM®, hyaluronic acid is the base of this filler.

Restylane® comes in various formulas, with each meant for a specific area of your skin. For your lips, you should opt for Restylane® Silk. Its formula is great for delicate areas, and it has a smooth, gel-like consistency. On the other hand, Restylane® Defyne may be used around the mouth to offer more support to the muscles and fill smile lines. If you don’t know which option to go for, you can rest assured that our talented and knowledgeable providers will advise you on which filler option best suits your needs.

3. RADIESSE®

Most of our patients are more familiar with hyaluronic acid-based fillers such as JUVÉDERM® or Restylane®, but RADIESSE® is another wonderful filler option we offer at Azul. If you want to get a more natural lifting effect, then RADIESSE® might be the right choice for you! RADIESSE® is called a “dermal filler,” but its true purpose is to stimulate your body’s own collagen production. It uses calcium microspheres to trigger collagen production at the injection sites, having the body fill smile lines, issues at the corners of the mouth, chin wrinkles, and other signs of aging from within. RADIESSE® is excellent for nasolabial folds and sunken areas, and the FDA has also approved it for use on the backs of the hands.

Another added benefit of RADIESSE® is that it may take a year or more until you’ll need your next touch-up. Scheduling your annual appointment with one of our providers is a great way to ensure that you’re maintaining your stunning looks.

4. Sculptra® Aesthetic

As the name suggests, Sculptra® Aesthetic is the kind of filler that allows you to sculpt your face. Its formula is based on natural augmentation, which means that it stimulates your body into creating its own collagen. Sculptra® Aesthetic is a great option if you’re looking to treat deep wrinkles and contour your face or if you’re interested in adding more definition to your cheekbones or lips.

If you think Sculptra® Aesthetic might be the right option for you, give us a call to schedule a complimentary consultation with one of our providers.
