Can You Get a HydraFacial® While Pregnant?

As a mama-to-be, there are so many new things you’ll be experiencing throughout your pregnancy. While this is such an exciting time in a woman’s life, there are a few things you’ll also need to be mindful of or limited to, such as watching what foods you can and cannot eat, how you exercise, the medicine you take, and other lifestyle habits that can affect your baby.

Now you might be asking yourself, what about HydraFacial® treatments? Do I need to give those up as well? What does a HydraFacial® do, and why would it be seen as a potential concern? Well, you came to the right place. In this blog, we’ll discuss some of these questions so that you can feel comfortable in your decision and ensure you’re taking the proper treatment path.

What Is a HydraFacial®?

A HydraFacial® is a highly customizable treatment that caters to the specific needs and goals of each patient, making it a safe and suitable option for almost anyone. However, pregnant women may require some modifications to the treatment to ensure their safety. Typically, a HydraFacial® consists of three primary stages: cleansing, purifying, and nourishing, which involve various procedures such as exfoliation, resurfacing, extractions, hydration, and more. To accommodate pregnant women, our providers may recommend omitting certain steps or using alternative products such as safer serums, exfoliants, and other formulations that are more appropriate for

HydraFacial® Ingredients and How They May Affect Pregnancy

The HydraFacial® treatment contains various ingredients that can help rejuvenate your skin. The most common are:

  • Acne medication
  • Anti-aging products
  • Toners and cleansers
  • Anti-inflammatory skin products
  • Lactic acid
  • Salicylic acid
  • Glycolic acid

All of the above-mentioned products and components are great for reducing dark spots, wrinkles, and treating damage from the sun. For the most part, they are very safe to use while you are pregnant. However, there is still one ingredient that requires more research to determine its safety, and that is salicylic acid.

It is believed that in a low concentration, salicylic acid can be safely used during topical skin treatments. With that in mind, there is not enough research to support that claim, causing mothers-to-be to become a little more cautious about this skincare ingredient. Luckily, as we mentioned above, the HydraFacial® treatment is highly customizable, and various alternatives to this product are safe for pregnant women.

Verdict: Should You Get a HydraFacial® When Pregnant?

While it is normally safe to receive a HydraFacial® treatment during pregnancy, we recommend consulting your doctor before scheduling your appointment. Once you’ve been given the green light from your doctor, make sure you share the exciting news with your esthetician too, so that she can customize your treatment plan accordingly. If you feel more comfortable having a traditional facial or simply deferring your treatment until after you have given birth, we are more than happy to discuss those options as well. Your comfort, safety, and satisfaction are among our top priorities at Azul Cosmetic Surgery and Medical Spa.
