About Us - Patrick M. Flaharty M.D., FAACS

Puffiness or bags under the eyes is common as we age or it may be the result of heredity. As the skin under the eye thins, fat can collect causing a baggy appearance. There are several aesthetic products and procedures that can temporarily alleviate bags under the eyes by tightening the skin, but when you are looking for a more long–term solution, a lower lid blepharoplasty may be your best choice.

In this procedure a small incision is made inside the lower eyelid and excess fat is removed. A lower lid blepharoplasty can be performed alone, but is generally done in conjunction with an upper eyelid lift and/or facelift. If there is excess skin around the lower lid, it will be removed at the same time by incision or laser resurfacing.

Healing is usually rapid and complications are rare. The result is a rested appearance and the elimination of that tired-eye look.
