Blepharoplasty, or eyelid lift as it is commonly called, is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures performed in men. While the procedure is often performed to correct a heavy lid that is impairing vision, increasingly men are electing the procedure primarily for its aesthetic benefit. Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, can correct sagging eyelids, remove fatty pouches beneath the eyes and remove excess skin from the upper eyelids.
 While the technique is the same as for performing the surgery on a woman, the results desired are dramatically different. When considering an eyelid lift, most men are seeking a natural look that retains their rugged masculinity. They typically want a conservative approach to avoid too obvious a change in appearance and some fine eyelid wrinkling is acceptable, as it adds distinction to a man’s look.
Will Insurance Cover the Procedure?
Eyelid problems are common, even in younger people. Correcting eyelid problems that interfere with your vision may be covered by your health insurance. However, when eyelid surgery is performed for cosmetic reasons, it may not be covered in part or in whole by your health insurance. What about Recovery?
When eyelid surgery is performed alone, and not in conjunction with a facelift, it is generally done under local anesthesia. The eye area is bruised and swollen for about two weeks. It is important to keep your head up and place cold compresses. The resulting hairline scars that follow the natural contour of the eyelids tend to fade in about two months.
