About Us - Patrick M. Flaharty M.D., FAACS
Due to age and heredity, creases and wrinkles can begin to develop horizontally across the forehead along with furrowed frown lines between the eyebrows. These can make a person appear angry, tired or even sad. The brow lift, also known as the forehead lift, is a cosmetic surgery procedure which can help. This surgery minimizes forehead creases and frown lines, as well as hooding over the eyes and drooping eyebrows. The result is a smoother forehead and overall younger, more refreshed appearance.

The brow lift may be an ideal solution for you if you are looking to improve the appearance of the forehead area. Dr. Flaharty is happy to meet with you for a consultation to discuss your options. He is a board certified doctor specializing in facial cosmetic surgery with offices in Fort Myers and Bonita Springs, Florida. The doctor combines his extensive experience and training with his use of the latest techniques and technologies to ensure that you receive the very best brow lift results.

Brow lifts are often performed with local anesthesia and sedation or with general anesthesia. There are two techniques which may be used: the traditional or classic forehead lift and the endoscopic forehead lift. For the classic lift, an incision is created just behind the hairline across the top of the head. For the endoscopic lift, three to five very small incisions are made in the hairline through which an endoscope, or camera device, is inserted to assist the doctor with the surgery. With both approaches, the muscles may be altered, excess tissue removed, and the forehead skin tightened. Surgical times average one to two hours.

As with any surgery, you may experience some swelling, bruising and discomfort after your brow lift. Numbness may also occur and the traditional approach can result in itching along the incision site. The recovery is generally milder with the endoscopic approach. Medication can help with any discomfort that you do experience and elevating the head will help to minimize swelling. Most swelling should fade within about one week while the bruising may last for up to two to three weeks. Bandages applied after surgery are often removed within one to two days, while surface sutures are usually removed within one to two weeks. You should feel recovered enough from your brow lift to return to work within seven to ten days and sometimes sooner with the endoscopic approach. More strenuous activities should not be resumed for several weeks and sun exposure will need to be limited for several months.
