About Us - Patrick M. Flaharty M.D., FAACS

Botox® and Dysport® are both comprised of the cosmetic form of botulinum toxin. They are a non-surgical injection which can be used to temporarily treat forehead wrinkles and frown lines. Crow’s feet near the eyes and thick neck bands may also be improved. These two injectables work by blocking the nerve impulses, temporarily inhibiting the muscles responsible for certain facial expressions and their resulting wrinkles. The result is smoother skin and a more youthful, refreshed appearance.

If you are looking to temporarily improve the appearance of forehead wrinkles, frown lines, crow’s feet, or banding in the neck, then you may be a good candidate for treatment with either Botox® or Dysport®. Dr. Flaharty is happy to meet with you for a consultation to discuss how Botox®, Dysport® or any other procedure may help you to achieve your desired look. Dr. Flaharty is a board certified ophthalmologist specializing in facial cosmetic surgery. He has locations in Fort Myers and Bonita Springs, Florida.

Botox® and Dysport® injections are typically performed in the office setting. While anesthesia is not necessary, the treatment area may first be numbed with a topical application such as an ice pack or anesthetic cream. Dr. Flaharty will examine your ability to move certain muscles in the treatment area then administer several tiny injections directly into the muscles. Procedural times are very quick, taking just ten minutes or so.

There is little downtime or recovery associated with Botox® and Dysport® injections. Some minor, temporary side effects may result including tenderness, swelling, redness or bruising. Despite the presence of any of these, most patients are able to return to work and their normal routine immediately following treatment. Dysport® is believed to have some benefits over Botox®. Results may be seen sooner with Dysport®, within one to two days of treatment as opposed to three to five days as with Botox®. In addition, Dysport® may last longer, with an average of four to six months as opposed to three to four months as with Botox®. Dysport® can also be a good alternative for patients who have developed a tolerance to Botox®.
